Horror, death and atrocities have become established commodities in today’s society and the production and management of the darkest elements of human history are posing various challenges. One of these challenges is represented by the dissonance potential that is assumed to be implicit in each phase of the heritage production, management and consumption process. On account of this, this book aims at proving or disproving the above mentioned hypothesis. Hence, a deeper insight into the field of heritage with a special focus on atrocity heritage will be provided, in addition to an analysis of conflicts and dissonances that are likely to occur within the management and production process of atrocity heritage. Moreover, a variety of case studies will clarify the dissonance dilemma and will provide the basis for the recommendations for dissonance reduction and dissonance avoidance that will be given. The case study of the ‘seaside resort of the 20,000’ once more, will illustrate the issue of discords.
