Betty Thornton has had a passion for cooking all her life. She details her experience as a cook during the Second World War and, later in life, her days cooking for royalty. Brought up originally in Leeds, Thornton moved all over the country during her career as a cook. With humour and attention to detail she recounts tales of creating wonderful Christmas decorations out of household items as a child. She pursued her creativity when she entered Bradford College of Art and Textile Design, but later found her calling as a cook. The highlight of her extremely varied career was during her time at Broadlands, when she cooked for the Queen... and even Prince Charles and Diana on the first three days of their honeymoon.
