In 1922, he was convicted for taking part in the assassination of Walther Rathenau, the Jewish Foreign Minister of Germany during the Weimar Republic. Following the assassination he changed beliefs and after his release from prison in 1927, he joined the French Foreign Legion and later embarked on helping Jews escape from occupied France.

It was originally formed in 1973 by linking together both the 8th and 9th Battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment. Over the next twenty-four years the battalion would remain on the Australian Order of Battle based at Enoggera Barracks in Brisbane, Queensland, until it was disbanded in 1997 amid a number of Defence-wide cutbacks introduced by the Howard government. In 2006 it was announced that the battalion would be re-raised as part of a plan to expand the size of the Army and since then it has established itself as a fully deployable motorised infantry battalion as part of 7th Brigade.

State Highway 130, also known as SH 130 and Pickle Parkway, is a tollway from Interstate 35 (I-35) in Georgetown to US 183 and SH 45 at Mustang Ridge in Central Texas. Portions south of Mustang Ridge are now under construction . When completed, SH 130 will run in a 89-mile (143 km) corridor east and south of Austin, Texas. It parallels I-35 and is intended to relieve the Interstate`s traffic volume through the San Antonio-Austin corridor by serving as an alternate route. The northern terminus of State Highway 130 is I-35 north of Georgetown. Its eventual southern terminus is Interstate 10 near Seguin.
