The Kentucky State Data Center estimates Georgetown's population at 21,074 as of July 1, 2007 It is the county seat of Scott County. The original settlement of Lebanon, founded by Rev. Elijah Craig, was renamed in 1790 in honor of President George Washington. It is the home of Georgetown College, a private liberal arts college. Georgetown is part of the Lexington-Fayette, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area.
