He is the son of the famous author and journalist Robert K. Massie, and author Suzanne Massie. After receiving his high school degree from Hackley School in 1973, he was educated at Princeton University and earned both a Master's degree in Divinity at Yale and a Doctorate in Business Administration at Harvard. He was born with hemophilia.
